What does the future hold for the natural gas grids, which ultimately is a fossil fuel?

There will eventually be a switch to alternatives that fit into a climate-neutral Flanders. Customers will still connect to the existing gas grid, in part as a result of the phase-out of fuel oil. Existing gas connections can also continue to rely on the gas distribution grid. In the longer term, we are assuming a decrease in gas (peak) consumption. That's why we still apply a 'keep it running' scenario currently. But how will the utilisation rate of the gas distribution grid evolve in the longer term? And could other gases like green hydrogen be an alternative?

Find out how we are estimating this.
